Novel Creation Process — Phase 11

Marketing Phase

By Cody Leet

Sales falling? Here are some ideas to keep your book front and center. Some may work for you, others may not. Try the ones you feel most comfortable with.

☐ Tour Independent Bookstores

Visit local independent bookstores and introduce yourself. Many are happy to stock or special-order books from local authors, and some will host signings. Use IndieBound to find stores near you.

☐ Send Copies to Influencers

Identify bloggers, YouTubers, podcasters, and social media personalities in your genre who reach your target readership. Send complimentary copies and ask for an honest review or mention. Even a small endorsement from a niche influencer can meaningfully move the needle.

☐ Create a Trailer Video

A well-produced book trailer can reach audiences on YouTube, Instagram Reels, and TikTok that you'd never find through text alone. Even a simple 60-second video with compelling visuals and your book synopsis can generate significant interest. Tools like Adobe Premiere Rush or Canva make this accessible without professional video skills.
